Sierra Leone has been unanimously endorsed by the Economic Community of West African States for a second mandate (2026–2027) on the African Union Peace and Security Council, following an extraordinary Mediation and Security Council meeting held at ministerial level.
The meeting, which focused on the election of member states to the African Union’s premier peace and security body, was presided over by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba.
The endorsement reflects strong regional confidence in Sierra Leone’s leadership and contributions to peace and security, particularly its active roles on both the United Nations Security Council (2024–2025) and the AUPSC (2024–2025).
In response, Minister Kabba expressed appreciation to ECOWAS member states for their trust in Sierra Leone’s leadership. He also extended gratitude to Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, for his guidance in shaping the country’s foreign policy direction.
He further acknowledged the dedication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as Sierra Leone’s diplomatic missions in Abuja and Addis Ababa, for their continued efforts in advancing the nation’s multilateral engagement and representation.
