Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, held high-level bilateral discussions with Libya’s Petroleum Minister, Khalifa Abdulsadek, on the margins of the CEN-SAD Foreign Ministers meeting in Tripoli.
The meeting builds on an existing relationship between the two ministers, which began during the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Both leaders, trained petroleum engineers, have previously engaged in extensive discussions on the evolving dynamics of the global oil and gas industry, including the impact of emerging technologies and the shifting geopolitics of energy transition.
During their latest engagement, discussions focused on Libya’s re-emerging oil and gas sector and its potential to support African countries with more affordable petroleum products to enhance energy access and power generation. Libya holds the largest oil and gas reserves on the African continent, with less than five percent of its recoverable oil extracted to date.
Minister Kabba emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening energy diplomacy amid global economic and energy challenges, highlighting the importance of regional collaboration in unlocking Africa’s energy potential.
He also extended goodwill to the people of Libya, expressing hopes for unity, peace, and prosperity, and reaffirmed the country’s role as a key Pan-African partner in advancing shared development goals.
